Why this directory exists
When I needed a fence put up around my own yard, I figured finding someone would take an afternoon. It didn't. Every search sent me bouncing between the same kinds of pages. Ads at the top. Then sites that wanted my phone number so they could pass it to a handful of companies I had never heard of. Then lists from big national sites that named companies two counties away.
When I did find real fence companies, I still couldn't tell much. Did they install vinyl, or just wood? Did they only do repairs? Did they even come out to my town? I'd call one, find out it wasn't a fit, and go back to searching. Nothing put the basics in one place.
So I built the list I wished I'd had: every fence company in Illinois I could verify, town by town, with its own phone number, its Google rating, and what its own website says it installs. You call the company directly. Nobody sits in the middle, and nobody sells your number.
Right now that is 524 companies and 29,155 Google reviews across 136 town pages, last checked October 17, 2026.
How listings are compiled
- Public record first. Every listing starts from the company's Google Business record in Illinois, filed under fence contractor. Closed businesses and businesses with no reviews are left out. Duplicates are merged.
- Their own website second. We read each company's own website and mark the fence types and services it says it offers. If the website does not say, the listing says "not stated" instead of guessing.
- Ratings as Google shows them. We show the Google rating and review count on the date we checked, and the date is on the page. We never write reviews, change ratings or make up a score.
- The order is the same for everyone. Within a town, companies whose website says they install fences come first, then the rest, each sorted by rating weighted by number of reviews.
Our standards
- A basic listing is free and stays free. No company can pay to change its rating or its place in the ranked list.
- Paid spots exist, and every one is labeled Featured on the card itself.
- We publish facts a company would recognize about itself: phone, address, hours, services. No commentary, no complaints, no opinions about anyone's work.
- We do not verify licenses, insurance or the quality of any work. Ask the company for proof of insurance and check permit rules with your town before work starts.
- Ryan Nesheim also runs N5 Studio, which builds websites for local trade businesses. A company being an N5 client never changes where it appears, and any paid placement is labeled the same as everyone else's.
Corrections and removals
If something on a listing is wrong, or you want your company removed, use the claim link on the listing or email hello@fencecontractorsillinois.com. Corrections and removals are handled within the week, no questions asked.
